The SimCube NIBP with ECG and Respiration configuration
comprises four modes used in testing the non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) and
electrocardiogram (ECG) functions of medical patient monitors, and an additional
three modes solely for ECG, Respiration and Pacer Detection circuit testing. The
four basic modes are: Manometer (pressure gauge), Adult, Neonatal, and
Hypertensive. The three remaining modes are ECG Asystole, ECG Resp OFF,
and ECG Pacer ON. The unit powers on immediately with AC power, and the
display (2) is lighted when a pressurized air source is connected to the NIBP
Connector (4). Pressing the Mode Button (1) toggles sequentially through
all modes, and the appropriate Mode LED (3) or (6) is lighted for each.
ECG leads are connected to snaps on the side of the unit. 3-, 5-, and
12-lead ECG simulation is provided.
Manometer mode. NIBP simulation is OFF, and
measured air pressure is displayed. This mode is used to test the NIBP
Overpressure function of the monitor, as well as for Calibration and Leak.
In this mode, ECG Simulation and Respiration Simulation are ON, and ECG Pacer
Simulation is OFF.
Adult mode. NIBP simulation is ON, and responds
to measured air pressure by generating a pulse envelope that simulates a patient
with blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg, mean pressure of 100 mmHg, heart rate of 70 bpm, and simulated pulse volume of 1 ml. ECG, Respiration, and Pacer
Simulation are the same as in Manometer mode.
Neonatal mode. NIBP simulation is ON, and
responds to measured air pressure by generating a pulse envelope that simulates
a patient with blood pressure of 70/40 mmHg, mean pressure of 55 mmHg, heart
rate of 95 bpm, and simulated pulse volume of 0.5 ml. ECG, Respiration,
and Pacer Simulation are the same as in Manometer mode.
Hypertensive mode. NIBP simulation is ON, and
responds to measured air pressure by generating a pulse envelope that simulates
a patient with blood pressure of 190/120 mmHg, mean pressure of 150 mmHg, heart
rate of 70 bpm, and simulated pulse volume of 1 ml. ECG, Respiration, and
Pacer Simulation are the same as in Manometer mode.
ECG Asystole mode. ECG Simulation is OFF, ECG
Pacer Simulation is OFF, and Respiration Simulation is OFF. This mode is
used to check monitor ECG noise level.
ECG Resp OFF mode. ECG Simulation is ON, ECG
Pacer Simulation is OFF, and Respiration Simulation is OFF. This mode is
used to check noise level on the monitor's Respiration circuit.
ECG Pacer ON mode. ECG Simulation is ON, ECG
Pacer Simulation is ON, and Respiration Simulation is ON. This mode is
used to check the monitor's Pacer Detection circuit.
Virtually no set-up or configuration of the SimCube is
required. Thus, while the total time required to test a given monitor is
monitor-dependent, the one-button operation of the SimCube ensures that your
test sequence is completed as quickly as possible.
